"Her hits have been the soundtrack for many of our lives. Now Allee Willis is taking her gift for songwriting and her devotion for her city a bold step further—by creating "The D", a love song for Detroit and a new theme for the Motor City's resurgence with an accompanying mega-tribute party of historic proportions… Arguably one of the most ambitious displays of love and support for Detroit by one of its own."

WHAT IS "THE D"?

Grammy, Emmy, Tony, and Webby award winning and nominated songwriter, artist, director, collector, party thrower Allee Willis wrote a song for her beloved hometown of DETROIT and recorded it with anyone there who wanted to be on the record - more people in history than have ever been on a record before - 5000+ including a plethora of Detroit born celebrities - all rising in an expression of pride, joy and funkiness in evidence that the SOUL has never left the Motor City and the beat without question goes on!

Having written one of the biggest TV theme songs of all time, “I'll Be There For You (the theme from FRIENDS)”, Willis, along with collaborator Andrae Alexander, wrote “The D” as the official unofficial theme song to accompany the spectacular re-imagination of Detroit that’s going on now. The song is a testament to the motto Willis lives by, "from the ashes come the miracles”.

"The D” record and micro-documentary were made against near impossible odds - no budget other than Willis’ ever-withering pockets, a ragtag production team that came together just 24 hours before she was going to have to pull the plug, every recording engineer warning her that a record could never be made the way she intended to record it, and the fact that despite songs she wrote having sold over 60 million records Willis has no idea how to play, read or notate music.

“The D” is motoring towards a Spring 2017 premiere!
